This is Benji Medure’s 10th year as the head coach at Huntington Beach High School and his eightteenth year overall coaching baseball. Medure started his coaching career at Riverside Poly High School in 1992 as a varsity assistant under Rich Graves, Dan Drake and Aaron Moore. In eight years at Riverside Poly, Medure won four Ivy League titles and advanced to the finals of CIF once, semifinals once and quarterfinals twice. In 9 years at HB, Medure’s overall record is 116-119-2. Under Medure, the Oilers won a Sunset League title in 2004 and advanced to the second round of the playoffs, losing to eventual CIF Champion Arlington High School. He was the Sunset League and Orange County Coach of the Year in 2004. He has been chosen to coach the Orange County all star team in 2004 and 2008. In 2009, the Oilers were CIF Finalists. This was the first time in the 104 year history of the school that HBHS made it to the finals. Medure has coached current Oakland A’s shortstop Donnie Murphy, Washington National’s pitcher Collin Balester and Anaheim Angel’s 2006 first round pick Hank Conger. Medure also teaches math at HBHS. In his free time, Medure enjoys cooking for friends and family, body surfing and spending time with his wife, Tegan and their daughter, Lia. They reside in Huntington Beach.
#40 Adam Springston Assistant Varsity Coach / Varsity Pitching Coach
This is Coach Springston’s 6th year at HBHS and 4th year as the varsity pitching coach. Before he came to HBHS, he was the pitching coach at Simi Valley High School, where he coached Angel pitcher Jared Weaver. As a player, he was drafted in 1996 by the Atlanta Braves. He played collegiately at Cal Lutheran University, where he won an NAIA World Series in 1998. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1999 and played 5 years professionally in the minor leagues. He retired in 2004. In his free time, Adam likes to spend time with his wife, Jessica, cook and surf. He resides in Huntington Beach.
#18 Joel Bernstein Assistant Varsity Coach
This is Coach Bernstein’s second year as a coach at HBHS. He recently stopped playing baseball at Columbia University in Maryland in 2008. Bernie is an alumnus of HBHS and played on the 2004 league championship team. He graduated in 2005 and pitched for Bert Villareal at Goldenwest College, logging over 100 innings in 2 years there. He works with the outfielders and is the first base coach. He is single and resides in Huntington Beach.
# "Ru" Ruziecki's Assistant Varsity Coach
This is Coach Ruziecki's second year as a varisty assistant and third year coaching at HBHS. "Ru" is an alum of HBHS, graduating in 1999. He went on to play at Cypress JC for Scott Pickler and eventually earned a scholarship to Wake Forest University. He played first base and DH'd for the Demon Deacons in his last two years of college. He brings a wealth of knowledge to the HBHS hitters. He is married to wife Martina and lives in Huntington Beach.
